Vernon N. Lee, Jr., Vice-Chairman, Board of Directors
Mr. Vernon Lee, Jr is a trusted business and investment advisor to several middle market companies, institutional investors, entrepreneurs, and entertainment partners. As Managing Partner of Brightwood Management Partners, LLC his business involvement also includes deals with financing partners based in the U.S., China, Middle East, Africa, Japan, and France,.
Prior to his current role, he was a Partner with The Pembroke Group, LLC (TPG), a venture capital firm based in Washington, DC. He provided expertise in strategic planning and business operations while also coordinating due diligence efforts for the TPG SBI Broadband Fund. The TPG SBI Broadband Fund was a US $500 million joint venture with Tokyo, Japan based Softbank Investments. Mr. Lee also oversaw entrepreneur relations in addition to maintaining proprietary deal flow to the firm.
Other responsibilities included exploring development relationships with various entertainment partners to best leverage new and existing content across multiple new media, wireless, internet, and broadband platforms both in the U.S and Internationally.
During 2005-2006, Mr. Lee served as the U.S. planning committee chair for the United States/France Private Equity and Venture Capital Summit in Paris, France. The U.S. delegation, representing over $500 billion (US) in assets under management included various institutional private equity investors (Public and Private Pension Funds, University Endowments, and Family Offices). Event sponsors included The Senate of the Republic of France, The Greater Paris Investment Agency, The French Venture Capital Association, U.S. Department of Commerce International Trade Administration (ITA), and The Pembroke Group.
Prior to joining The Pembroke Group, Mr. Lee was a Director in PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) Business Advisory Practice with responsibility for providing operational business improvement strategies for clients in the Technology, InfoComm, and Entertainment & Media industry. His clients included both Fortune 1000 and venture capital backed companies.
Mr. Lee also served as PwC’s relationship manager for minority venture capital and private equity initiatives to include increasing access to capital. He was also responsible for leading the implementation of program/project management solutions and methodologies for PwC’s Global Risk Management Solutions - InfoComm Advisory Services group. While in this position, Mr. Lee led the global deployment (U.S. UK, Japan, France, and Germany) of an Internet Protocol (IP) Virtual Private Network (VPN) for a UK based telecom carrier.
Prior to joining PwC, Mr. Lee was a management consultant in KPMG Consulting’s (now BearingPoint) IT solutions group. Prior to that position, Mr. Lee was an Air Force acquisition officer in the Satellite Communications Program Office and Aeronautical Systems Center where he provided research & development and financial management expertise.
Mr. Lee currently serves on the Board of Directors for Ironbridge Systems, Inc., Velocity Sports Performance-Hampton Roads, Southeast Fairfax County Development Corporation and the Hampton Roads Youth Foundation. He is a Senior Advisor to Heritage Funding and a member of the Potomac Officers Club. He is a Life Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc and Past Chairman of the Washington, DC Chapters’ Youth Performing Arts/Talent Hunt Committee.
Mr. Lee received his MA in International Affairs from University of Dayton, Dayton, OH and his BBA in Management from Howard University, Washington, DC. He was born and raised in Hampton, VA and currently resides in Alexandria, VA.
